Reckong PeoRekong Peo, the administrative headquarters of Kinnaur District, is a charming town situated in the deeper reaches of the Himalayas, in Himachal Pradesh. Located at an altitude of 2670 m above sea level, this place offers panoramic views of Kinnaur Kailash Range – the abode of Lord Shiva. Rekong Peo is 260 km north-east of Shimla.

The cheerful Kinnaur Kalachakra Celestial Palace Gompa, with a very large, outdoor statue of Lord Buddha is twenty minutes from here. Rekong Peo is the venue of one of the four Buddha Mahotsav festivals conducted by the government of Himachal Pradesh.

The nearest airport is at Shimla. Shimla Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
